History

The village Enkering, a state-approved recreation place, is situated between Munich, Nuremberg, Augsburg and Regensburg, amidst the endless green of cool woods , greenfields and juniper meadows. Here in the contemporary nature reserve Altmühltal Nature Park, Georg-Michael Bauer, brewer from Enkering, founded his brewery and the country inn “Zum Bräu” in the year 1806.

Unfortunately he died very young. His brother-in-law, Michael Wexler, expanded and ran the business until the son and heir Michael Bauer had full age. In the year 1924 the brewery was shut down.

Since the foundation six generations have themselves commited to work hard and fully engaged to conserve and ameliorate this heir.

Rudolf Schöpfel, skilled cook and passionate host, son of Rudolf Schöpfel and Walburga Schöpfel-Bauer, and his wife Irene are now running the hotel-restaurant. The next generation is already ensured by their children Gabriel and Marie-Christin.
